The Girl with the Mermaid Hair, the companion novel to Frannie in Pieces, will be published February 2010. .Here's a sneak peak. The Girl with the Mermaid Hair Sukie Jamieson, the most beautiful and least popular girl at Cobweb, gets a gift, her grandmother’s mirror. She becomes so obsessed with looking at herself that she begins living two lives, the one in the mirror and her real life. As Sukie spins out of control, the mirror begins to crack, and Sukie’s life does too. Frannie, Simon, Jenna, and James are back. And there are new characters: Señor, Sukie’s dog. Whenever the Jamieson family disagrees they look to see what Señor thinks. He sits at the head of the table. Bobo, the quarterback at Hudson Glen High. Sukie meets him at the mall buying sunglasses. His text messages begin to obsess her. Warren Jamieson, Sukie’s Dad. He confides in his daughter, telling her secrets that she’s not supposed to tell her mother. One day she discovers a secret about him that he doesn’t know she knows. Felice Jamieson, Sukie’s mom. When her mom gets a face lift, Sukie jokes that her mom’s face is “under construction.” But the truth is, looking at her mother’s new face -- into her empty eyes, at her skin as smooth as processed cheese -- Sukie cannot “find” her mom. Her mother is gone. Isabella. Issy, who works at the pizza parlor, becomes Sukie’s friend in the mirror, blinding Sukie to whether she is really a friend in her real life.
